Press release 12/07/2005
The Sanville Institute and the Doctoral Program of Smith College School for Social Work have entered into a collaboration in which resources of the two schools are being shared for their mutual benefit. Formerly the California Institute for Clinical Social Work, The Sanville Institute is a freestanding program offering a Ph.D. in Clinical Social Work.
Smith College School for Social Work has created remarkable racial and ethnic diversity among its student body, and they are lending their expertise toward the development of greater diversity at The Sanville Institute. Dr. Kathryn Basham of Smith, an authority on racism and cross-cultural psychotherapy, will act as consultant to the faculty and participate in a convocation on Bridging Diversity in the Clinical Situation: Working with Clients of Mexican Origin.
The Sanville Institute faculty members, Drs. Judith Schore and Judith Nelson, experts on attachment theory and neurobiology, will teach a course for doctoral students on this subject next summer at Smith.
This first year of collaboration has been funded by a generous grant from Dr. Jean Sanville, a long-time faculty member at Smith and the founding Dean of The Sanville Institute. Dr. Sanville is considering a far-reaching proposal for further ongoing collaboration between the two schools.
